AICTE has introduced industry-led course modules aimed at producing skilled engineers

To produce industry-ready and employable BTech students, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has required all engineering colleges to develop new industry-based course modules. Within this framework, students will receive training on improved technical skills according to the requirements of the future market. Credit points will be awarded to students upon completion of these course modules.

As per the directive of AICTE, KCG College of Technology, Chennai has signed MoUs with FullStack Labs – web development and software consulting company. They jointly designed an industry-led program to teach students for three semesters. The MoU mandates the delivery mechanism of the course module by these tech giants as they also train our teaching staff in emerging technologies for 30 days.

Although integrating new course modules into the current curriculum comes with its own set of challenges. Bansal says, “A set of guidelines or a framework method to balance and compensate fundamental and conventional engineering courses as well as newly added modules could be a difficult task.

He further adds that certain branches of engineering like computer science, electronics and communication as well as mechanical automation are the most suitable for infusing new courses. Bansal says, “These branches have been revolutionized with the advent of computing over the past decade, due to the proliferation of technologies such as 5G, AI, cloud computing, IoT applications and automating. Thus, the demands for software engineers and computer engineers with up-to-date skills have reached monumental proportions.

Opportunities for students


Sundari pointed out that AICTE’s attempt to improve the curriculum will help students learn the applications of emerging technologies in core engineering disciplines. For example, Machine Learning, AI find a place in aeronautical or automotive engineering. She says, “It will help mechanical engineers take on multiple technology-based jobs. Apart from this, internship opportunities have also increased in terms of quality. Our BTech sophomores, against the norm for the final year, can now join virtual internships. Up to eight BTech students intern with IIT Madras on its technology-related projects for 10 hours per week, also earning a decent stipend. »
