IISc Bengaluru Launches New BTech Course in Mathematics and Computer Science – Edexlive
A new BTech course in Mathematics and Computer Science has been launched by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru. Admissions to the new program will be granted through the Advanced Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The program is expected to start in August this year, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
The institute said the new program seeks to enter a niche with the aim of “producing future leaders who will be at the forefront of research, development and innovation in futuristic disciplines and next-generation technologies. which require a thorough use of mathematics, computer science and data science.”
The curriculum will include six math and computer science courses each, while also containing science, engineering, and humanities courses.
IISc added, “Study streams have been designed in Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Computer Science, Theoretical Computer Science, Quantum Computing, Signal Processing, Computational Biology and Mathematical Finance. Students can opt for research projects /industry in their fourth year.”
Students can choose to pursue an MTech degree after completing the BTech by taking an additional year and project credits.
Director of the IISc, Professor Govindan Rangarajan said, “By the time students graduate from this program, the IISc will have established a postgraduate medical school. Students enrolled in this program will be able to complete projects in any branch of science, engineering or medicine. . It would be something very unique in this country.”
He went on to say, “Experts from Computer Science, Computational Data Science and Mathematics departments and other departments will teach students. This program will also impart leadership skills to students as they interact with experts, contractors and technical managers who are all based in Bangalore.”
