Jointly developed by IIT and IISc, NPTEL is an online learning platform for university-level science, technology, mathematics and engineering subjects.

IBM experts will co-offer a quantum computing course on the NPTEL platform and complement some NPTEL courses such as data science and AI with technical inputs to provide students with a current industry perspective. .

“Technology has become a key business catalyst and Indian companies have accelerated the adoption of new era technologies such as hybrid cloud, AI, analytics, quantum computing and IoT. At the same time, the skills gap in the Indian student community continues to widen. IBM has worked with various government and academic institutions to improve technical education pathways, and engagement with IIT Madras and NPTEL is an important step in this journey. The collaboration will help equip students with 21st century skill sets that can create new career paths, ”said Mona Bharadwaj, Global Academic Programs Manager, IBM India.

IBM experts will also organize technical sessions for NPTEL partner colleges through their locals and for the IIT M online bachelor program. These sessions will be free and available on NPTEL online platforms. and IIT Madras.

Professor Andrew Thangaraj, Coordinator, NPTEL, IIT Madras, said: “IIT and IISc are able to reach large numbers of learners through the NPTEL platform. NPTEL currently works with over 4,000 colleges in engineering, arts, business, science and management disciplines across the country. Many students take NPTEL certification exams as it helps them improve their employability. NPTEL has strived to bring an industrial perspective to its technically rich courses and is partnering with companies to co-offer the courses. Experts and senior business leaders contribute through their LIVE sessions on various technologies and offer career advice to NPTEL learners. We are very pleased to partner with IBM in this awareness initiative.

In May 2021, IBM announced a collaboration with IIT Madras to provide professors, researchers and students with access to IBM’s quantum systems, accelerate joint research in quantum computing, and develop study programs to help prepare students. IBM also worked with NPTEL to deliver a 12-week online course focused on blockchain architecture, design, and use cases.
