ISRO offers a free 12-day online course on biodiversity conservation; Check details


The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) offers a free online course for students. The 12-day “Geoinformatics for Biodiversity Conservation Planning” course will be delivered by the Indian Institute for Remote Sensing (IIRS), based in Dehradun, ISRO’s center for remote sensing and geoinformatics. Students will receive certificates after the end of the course.

In its brochure, IIRS indicated that interested students can apply for the course by visiting the official website www.iirs.gov.in. The deadline for submitting the application is December 5th.

The free online course will be taught by IIRS faculty members from December 6 to 17. According to the IIRS, the course will be most beneficial for professionals in central and national government agencies, private organizations, NGOs, students and researchers engaged in ecological studies. Participants who are able to maintain 70 percent attendance and complete the course will receive a certificate.

“Participants who attend the course sessions via the IIRS Youtube channel must mark their attendance via the offline session which will be available after 24 hours,” said IIRS.

Through the course “Geoinformatics for Biodiversity Conservation Planning”, participants will discover the applications of geographic information systems (GIS) in biodiversity conservation planning, 3D characterization of forest biodiversity, cloud computing for forest monitoring, among other similar things.

ISRO Free Online Course: How to Apply

Step 1: Visit the official IIRS website – https://www.iirs.gov.in/

Step 2: On the home page, click on “Edusat” under “IIRS Outreach Program” which can be found in the “DISTANCE LEARNING” tab

Step 3: Click on “Online registration form” of the course “Geoinformatics for biodiversity conservation planning

Step 4: Complete the form by entering the details of the diplomas

Step 5: Click on “Preview” after filling out the form and check the details

Step 6: Click “Send” and print it out for future use.
