New course offerings explored at CDU open day in Sydney
Charles Darwin University (CDU) will showcase its expanded course offerings at the University of Sydney Campus Open Day this Saturday, September 3.
The expansion includes new information technology (IT) courses, such as the Master of Data Science and the Master of Cyber Security, as well as the Master of Nursing Practice which will again be offered to graduate students in 2023 .
CDU Associate Vice-Chancellor for Sydney Region Penelope Sweeting said the open day gives prospective international and domestic students the opportunity to explore these new course options.
“It’s an exciting time on the Sydney campus as we expand to offer a wider range of courses and continue to develop our teaching spaces, including clinical teaching labs,” Ms Sweeting said.
“The Open House will showcase how CDU’s sophisticated teaching and learning facilities support these new course offerings in the heart of the central business district, with world-class attractions just steps away.”
Ms Sweeting said expanding course offerings on the Sydney campus would increase the university‘s reach to other places in Australia.
“With state-of-the-art facilities and a central location, we would love to see a cohort of international students in Sydney,” Ms Sweeting said.
“We are the university of the Northern Territory, but we also want to increase our reach and impact in other parts of Australia. Our priority is to attract national and international students to the territory, but new students in Sydney would also give us a boost.
“CDU already has a strong presence in Sydney, and that’s to ensure that we continue to have a strong brand by showcasing the territory’s uniqueness nationally, outside of the territory.”
The specialist focus at CDU’s Sydney site covers information technology, particularly cybersecurity, as well as nursing and midwifery.
CDU Sydney Campus currently offers the Master of Nursing Practice (pre-registration) and provides clinical training for a range of nursing and midwifery courses, including a Bachelor of Midwifery and Master of Nursing (Nursing practitioner).
“At the Sydney campus, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a safe, simulated environment before participating in their healthcare clinical placements,” Ms Sweeting said.
It also offers a range of IT courses in data science and cybersecurity, which are accredited by the Australian Computer Society.
Interactive highlights of the Sydney Open Day from 9am to 1pm include learning to swaddle a baby, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) first aid demonstrations, short lectures and campus tours.
The Open Day takes place at the CDU Sydney campus at 815 George Street, Haymarket, Levels 9, 10 and 11.
