ANANTNAG: Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Principal Secretary of the Skills Development Department (SDD), today inaugurated the Cricket Bat Making Course at CFC Sethar.

After the inauguration of the course, the principal secretary exchanged with the holders of units and the heads of industries and other departments.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Samoon said the initiative will add skilled labor to the bat industry. While discussing end-to-end product development, the Principal Secretary said that stakeholders need to focus on producing finished products in addition to marketing products. He pointed out that the added value will attract more entrepreneurs to the bat industry.

Appreciating the initiative of the District Skills Committee (DSC), the Principal Secretary said that DSCs have been set up in all districts and he hopes that other districts will emulate similar skills improvement initiatives.

Dr. Samoon noted that the department has started to rank ITIs based on various key performance indicators to promote healthy competition between institutions. He said ITIs should focus on providing job-oriented training to students and SDD is committed to equipping institutions with modern equipment to impart necessary technical skills. He said the new education policy provides flexible entry and exit opportunities for students and promotes on-the-job training and the same is being mainstreamed in technical education institutes.

On this occasion, the principal secretary was briefed on the details of the course by the course partners. He was informed that theoretical and practical sessions will take place with topics ranging from the selection of raw materials to the finishing and marketing of the bat.

Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr. Piyush Singla said the course will add skilled manpower to local industry and generate employment opportunities for young people. He said the district skills committee is working out details for similar courses in other industry sectors. He said the course is free and aspiring entrepreneurs should take advantage of it. He further said that in collaboration with KVK, a project will be set up to grow English willows in the district so that the same can be used to add diversity in the products produced by the industry.

GM DIC, Peerzada Zahoor said that 147 industrial bat units are registered with DIC Anantnag. He said the units were producing over 20 lakh bats annually with a turnover of over Rs 110 crore. He said the bat making course will equip young people with the skills needed to work in the bat industry and similar courses for other sectors are being designed to provide more such opportunities for young people. youth.

The principal secretary also distributed forestry permits to several unit holders on this occasion.

Later, the Principal Secretary visited ITI Anantnag and Govt Polytechnic College Larkipora. He interacted with students at both locations and emphasized the punctuality of staff and students.

At ITI Anantnag, he inspected the college and interacted with the students. He emphasized imparting quality education and practical skills-enhancing training to prepare students for the job market.

At Larkipora, Dr. Samoon has inaugurated two computer labs equipped with state-of-the-art computers that will provide students with general computer training as well as specialized AUTO CAD training. Inspecting various projects being developed at GPC Larkipora, Dr. Samoon gave instructions to develop a playground on campus. He further insisted on accelerating the ongoing works in the hostel block and completing the walls of the institute compound.
