Regional Explosive Ordnance Disposal Course for Central Asian Specialists held in Tajikistan

AKIPRESS.COM – Thirteen specialists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan attended a three-week regional course on explosive ordnance disposal at the Regional Explosive Hazard Training Center (REHTC) in Chimteppa, Tajikistan on 29 October 2021.

The course was organized by the Ministry of Defense of Tajikistan and facilitated by the OSCE Program Office in Dushanbe. For the first time, the course was delivered by national EOD instructors from the Ministry of Defense of Tajikistan, including instructors from REHTC.

The activity aimed to develop the skills and improve the qualifications of Central Asian military personnel in detecting and identifying explosive ordnance as well as determining when it can be moved and transported safely until final disposal. . Participants also learned how to implement the destruction of multiple munitions simultaneously using the linear and annular chains of individual mines and unexploded ordnance.

During the closing ceremony, an agreement for the loan of computer equipment to REHTC was signed between the Ministry of Defense of Tajikistan and the OSCE Program Office in Dushanbe.

The project is supported by the US State Department and Germany and is part of OSCE efforts to develop a mechanism for cooperation among Central Asian states to address concerns and challenges arising from the elimination of risk of explosion.
