RV University appoints Dr. Sanjay Chitnis as Dean of School of Computer Engineering
Dr. Sanjay brings with him over two decades of experience in the field, is now poised to guide future leaders in engineering and computing.
Bengaluru-based RV University has appointed Dr. Sanjay Chitnis, Academician, Technologist, Machine Learning Mentor and EdTech Angel Investor, as Dean of the School of Computing and Engineering (SOCSE).
Dr. Sanjay obtained his M.Tech from IIT Kanpur and his Ph.D. from the Department of Computing and Automation, Indian Institute of Science, in Machine Learning. He worked at LG and Motorola for over 22 years in various management roles. He switched to academics in 2014 and took over as director of CMR Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. He worked as Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Chair of Computer Science and Engineering Department at Dayananda Sagar University and Dean of Computer Science at REVA University.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Sanjay managed a project that developed part of the messaging subsystem for IRIDIUM, the low-orbit satellite-based communications network at Motorola.
He was responsible for implementing best practices for software engineering, Six Sigma, and project management at Motorola, India, as well as other Motorola Global Software Group software centers around the world. He was a SEI Certified CMMI SCAMPI B Lead Evaluator and Trainer at Motorola University for Six Sigma for Product Development. Later at LG, he led the platform engineering team in India for LG Smart devices.
Dr. Sanjay has published 30 research articles, 3 book chapters and has one patent to his name. He has directed 3 doctorates. academics and is a senior member of the IEEE. He is currently the General Co-Chair of the 11th IEEE International Conference on Cloud Computing in Emerging Markets. He was a member of EXECOM of IEEE Bangalore Chapter and secretary of IISc Alumni Association, Bangalore Chapter.
Upon his appointment, Dr Sanjay said: “Global opportunities require an entrepreneurial innovation mindset, interdisciplinary knowledge and 21st century skills. These will come through experiential learning as part of collaborative teams and mentors with expertise in multiple disciplines. For example, to develop a cutting-edge banking solution, knowledge of AI and blockchain alone is not enough. You need to have basics and have other experts in the team who know the field of banking, finance, law, design, management, human psychology, etc.
Strengthening the School, Professor Sahana Gowda joined SOCSE as Associate Dean. She has over 20 years of experience in higher education in the field of computer science.
