Sydney maintains a strong reputation in engineering and computer science

The University of Sydney has been ranked among the world’s top 75 universities for engineering and computer science according to the Times Higher Education (THE) and US News Best Global Universities World University Rankings.

In the 2022 US News Ranking of the world’s best universities, Sydney is ranked 41st in engineering and 38th in computer science, up nine places from the 47th in 2021.

The US News rankings also showed good performance in all areas of engineering, with Sydney now 11th in the world for electrical and electronic engineering, 40th for civil engineering and 48th for mechanical engineering.

A significant jump from the 22nd in the world to the 11th, Electrical and Electronic Engineering is now one of the most successful subjects at the University.

The US News methodology focuses on factors that measure research performance, including the number of highly cited scientific articles, books, and articles as well as international collaborations.

The 2022 THE world university ranking by subject has seen Sydney accelerate each year in the ranking of the “Engineering and Technology” category, dropping from 93rd in 2019 to 65th in 2022.

In addition, the university is now ranked 74th in the world in the “Computer Science” category.

The THE ranking assesses more than 1,000 universities in engineering and technology and more than 700 universities in computer science around the world.

Final rankings are decided based on a series of factors including performance in education, influence of research, and income from industry.

“The research strengths of the Faculty of Engineering and its continuous efforts to innovate are essential to our consistent strong performance in university rankings,” said the professor. Willy Zwaenepoel, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

“Having launched the Digital Science Initiative earlier this year to embed and enhance 21st century digital skills in research and undergraduate degrees, I am delighted to see that the rankings reflect the work of our academics and researchers. “

The University of Sydney’s achievements in subject rankings follow the announcement that it has maintained its position as No. 1 in Australia and No. 4 in the world for graduate employability, through the 2022 QS Employability Rankings.
