UPCAP offers a course on “Powerful Tools for Caregivers”
Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a 6-week online workshop designed for non-professional and informal family caregivers, will be held Wednesdays October 6 to November 10 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. EST, with an optional Zoom focus. September 29 at 2 p.m.
Research studies show high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers and increased vulnerability to health problems. Caregivers frequently cite restriction of personal activities and social life as problems. Additionally, caregivers often experience a lack of control over events and a sense of helplessness that can have a significant negative impact on their physical and emotional health. The Powerful Tools for Caregivers online program will provide caregivers with tools to help reduce stress and increase relaxation, make difficult decisions, reduce guilt, anger and depression, communicate effectively, and set goals. goals and problem-solving, and taking better care of themselves while caring for a loved one. or friend. Caregivers will benefit from the course whether they are helping a parent, spouse or friend living at home, in a long-term care facility, or across the country. The workshop focuses on personal care for the caregiver, not on specific illnesses or practical care.
Powerful tools for caregivers are offered by the Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) in partnership with the Tri-County Office on Aging. This online workshop is free, but registration is required. Participants must also have a computer, tablet or smartphone with Internet connection and email address to participate. Class sizes are limited and registration closes September 26.
